Conclusion

Thank you for the enjoyable course material. I realise now how much capability their is on the web and i must accept i am never going to use it all. Rather than stress over it all just grab and experience small and relevant chunks at a time. some of the applications will minimise the time spent and keep everything in 1 place like delicious and rollyo. Not a fan of the virtual world, much rather live in the real world. Looking forward to enhancing my knowledge and usage of the course material. Thanks again.

Activity 21 & 22

Finally completed. Better late than never they say. Great way to finish learning I can access books via the net for free. I can see great value in both. Accessible at anytime and anyplace. Can take with you in your pocket. No reason for people not to read. Does take some getting used to - I found my eyes straining after a while and I tired easily - but that could just be the time of year. Terrific for special needs and even those that prefer a mix of auditory stimulation. Audio would be great for those long trips in the car.

Activity 21

Love and use both these sites. They are great resources to make classes interesting. For example my struggling Maths class really love the Abbott and Costello routine on maths.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkmV-fa9-rg

As shown with commoncraft can be used as an onlne tutorial. Teacher tube provides the necessary filter to allow better usage in the classroom setting.

Activity 20

Have used Podcasts many times both radio and tv. ABC,Sixty minutes and a current affair for PDHPE and Mathsonline (a great tutorial free service). Very familiar with these.

Activity 19

found Rollyo very similar to Delicious. Would make little sense in using both and splitting all organised sites between the 2. Created a username- http://www.rollyo.com/shanewhereat/
Delicious seems the easier of the 2 at the prelim phase however over time i may change my opinion.

Activty 18

A wealth of opportunities and information available here. Will have to explore further before i can utilise in PDHPE. Certainly useful in key subject areas. It is just a matter of sourcing then collating all these resources, bring on the holidays and some research time. Did enjoy the mothercraft explanation again.

Activity 17 Delicious Acct

My account is http://delicious.com/whereat

Activity 17

Del-icio-us was mar-vell-ous. Enjoyed the browsing of others websites allowing professional swapping of resources.Picked up some terrific links to websites for Maths and look forward with time of adding to the list.
The ability to create all my favourites in 1 area will save massive amounts of time. At present i have a few desktops and laptops with many favourites mixed together on each computer. This will streamline rthem all together. Definitely 1 i will utilise.

Activity 16

Added a few blog links and a few more RSS feeds to my google reader account. Loved the simplicity of the craft show video. This will hopefully reduce the amount of web surfing i do searching for information. Will continue to add as needed.

Activity 15

Created a reader account. Found the video tutorials a great way to learn for the visual people like myself. Have created a few links to start with and will update with relevant websites to my subject area. Google really is the 1 stop shop.

Activity 14

Joined up and have since been bombed with emails to join. Struggle to find the time to update and play on these sites but i am sure it is something i will warm to. Do people get offended when you do not accept them as friends? I can see the need to create groups as to not share personal details with evereyone. Can easily see how teenage parties get out of control when people post details online to the masses with the click of a button. Great way to remain in contatc with people. Twitter to me is like all this reality TV shows where our entertainment is following other peoples lives. Not for me at this stage.

Activity 13

Did play around with myspace years ago but not something thta stimulated me enough to remain active. Like Idol or a talent quest online. Great link for the libraries to tap into this network and target education on their terms. May encourage more teengares to view libraries differently. Prefer facebook.

Activity 12

Flickr is another opportunity to save all files and share online. Uploaded a few photos and used editing features. similar uses to facebook where photos can be accessed by those we choose. The tags allows pictures to be easily tracked which is a handy option. This course has opened my eyes to the power of the web and the increasing opportunities we have to share our photos and lives. As a teacher i am worried about the ability to shares unwanted photos with the masses. used correctly a wonderful tool. Call me a pessimist but i do not believe these sites will remain free always. Only when most people are hooked and have most files online a fee will be introduced. Link is

Activity 11

Library thing has some great features for avid readers. A great way to search and swap books or even read reviews before you buy. Will also link people with similar intereste and tastes. a good resource for english teachers or librarians but i am sure i will find an opportunity for my own use. Just added the nearest 3 books and the link is

Activity 10

Loved these sights and their capabilities despite the frustrations of servers down or getting lost in the instructions. Love to do images for parrties and could use as presentations and funny ice breakers with the students. will explore further here. My little girl loved the images, " How did you do that Dad". Will enjoy the genius tag whilst it lasts.

Activity 9-

WOW forgive me father it has been a while since my last blog with the new house cosuming all of me. Spent some time, actually playing around here ended up quite some time. I can see the addictive nature of these sites and to be frank it does nothing for me personally. I am concerned about the impact these sites have on those who use them as a means of entertainment and social interaction. Over time it has to reduce ones ability to socilaise and form real time relationships where communication is face to face not behind the security of a keyboard. With a growing family my leisure time is invested in challe nging them daily with real life activties and outdoor experiences and to be happy developing themselves not aiming to create an online persona through the internet.

Activity 8- I google Page

Just finsished setting up my I google. My daughter set up one through school so it will be nice to compare stories. Great variety of options and user friendly. Will be able to sort all links and news stories all into 1 area. Look forward to playing around with and developing a deeper understanding of its capabilities.

Activity 7-google Books

I have just sold all my shares in Dymocks & Angus and Roberstson book stores. What a great way to review or try before you buy. Unfortunately however another reason not to get your butt of the chair and walk around the shops to buy a book. Just sit back and at the press of a button it will come to you. Another example of technolgy making life simpler but at the same time encouraging us to move less. 1,2 3,4,5 ....50. Sorry just finsished 50 push ups...where was I...oh yeah loved the site

Activity 6-Google maps

This is a tool i have used before and found it amazing. Like a time machine with virtual travel at your fingertips. Great for directions and property searching or just looking at the development over time as some of the maps are a few years old. i understand councils are also utilisng this service detecting unauthroised buildings etc so be aware.

Activity 5- Google Docs

Opened a spreadsheet, created contacts list, shared file, created graphs and had all contacts update the spreadsheet at once watching live graphing which was Ok until someone started sabotaging and we could nolt work out who. This got us to thinking how would it be if 30 studetns were in the classroom working on the file at once, could present a problem. i am sure their will be ways to incorporate with a little more experience. Setting up the contacts list could be time consuming as all will have to have a gmail account.Hoping there may be an easier way to update 150 studetns into contacts list.

Activity 4- Web 2.0

Finally got to writing this blog after reading all the materials. Some interesting points. The great challenge is sifting through the information and grabbing what is relevant now and letting the rest go for another day. Feel at times bogged down with the amount of information/resources out there and the stress of not finding sufficient time to dig deeper and utilise all of it. As a PE teacher and sports advocate i am con cerned at the attraction of internet activities and the impact on physical activity and live social interaction. I struggle to vision a digital school for all but the highly motivated with stable family life. Schools provide much more than curriculum information and teachers are much more than just educators( i will not list all the things here as most teachers will undertand where i am coming from). Certainly the interent provides a great resource for information and we as teachers need to ensure students are equipped to extract this information and critically analyse to formulate their own opinions. With the web now available on most mobiles accessability to the Web is a constant and we need to teach students appropriate use.
